Ascona: paradise found in Switzerland

Ascona is a municipality in the district of Locarno, which is located in the canton of Ticino. Its most famous landmark is the Lake Maggiore or Lago Maggiore, which is a large lake located on the south side of the Alps. Ascona is located in the Italian part of Switzerland and so they speak Italian there.

As I read the book „Der Verehrer“ (in English the admirer/ adorer) written by Charlotte Link, I had to go to Ascona. She described this village in Switzerland as the most beautiful place on earth. So I’m really happy that we could connect this place in our trip in Switzerland.IMG_2527

The Piazza

The Piazza is the very city center of Ascona, and it is also there where the village life takes place. There are so many restaurants and gift shops, that you really don’t know where you should eat or buy something. But it is so charming and lovely. They have installed benches on the Piazza, and it is so beautiful to sit there while looking on the lake.

The Lake Maggiore

The Lake Maggiore was our main destination while staying in Ascona. There are two sorts of beaches in Ascona, one where you have to pay, and one which is free. We chose the one to pay, because they offered lockers, which is really important when you have your camera and everything with you.

First, the weather was really nice, but suddenly, it turned into a light storm. So it was a really short Lake Maggiore adventure for us.

I have to admit, that Ascona is one of my favorite places in Switzerland. It is a small village but with a lot of charm.
